World Day for Glaciers - 21 March 2025
March 21, 2025The United Nations international days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to reinforce achievements of humanity.
The first World Day for Glaciers and World Water Day will be celebrated with a high-level event taking place in Paris and New York on 20-21 March 2025.
The 2025 global campaign for the World Day for Glaciers and World Water Day, will highlight the various impacts of glacier changes on downstream communities and ecosystems, and the urgent need for developing water-related adaptation strategies in areas affected by shrinking or disappearing glaciers, more transboundary cooperation and community engagement, alongside continued support for ambitious reductions in fossil fuel consumption. The campaign will also engage youth audiences and develop synergies with the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025-2034).
