ProBleu School Funded Projects

2026 ProBleu project Collection

This publication presents a collection of 111 school projects supported by the European project ProBleu (ProBleu Project, Grant agreement No. 101113001), focused on promoting water and ocean literacy across educational communities.

The projects included in this volume have enabled participating schools to develop learning experiences connected to aquatic ecosystems, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. Through these initiatives, many institutions have progressed towards accreditation as European Blue Schools and have become part of the Network of European Blue Schools, a growing community committed to advancing ocean literacy in education.

The collection reflects a wide diversity of educational contexts, including primary education, secondary education, special education and vocational and technical education and training (VET).

Each project is presented as an individual case study, combining:

  • Descriptions of activities and objectives
  • Real-world implementation examples
  • Photographic documentation
  • Reflections and insights from teachers

Together, these contributions illustrate how schools across Europe are integrating water and ocean literacy into their curricula, fostering student engagement, critical thinking, and environmental awareness. This compilation serves as a record of funded initiatives, and as a source of inspiration for educators and institutions interested in strengthening water literacy.

Citizen science aspects

Many of these school projects carry out citizen science initiatives on beaches, rivers, lakes and so on, and can therefore serve as an inspiration to other schools. Some of them take part in initiatives such as Plastic Pirates or FreshwaterWatch, or use citizen science platforms such as MINKA.
